I thought yours sounded similer to no muffler. I knew it wasn't open headers because it wasn't loud enough, but it had that no muffler sound. Like I said I prefer straight pipes. I noticed V8's sound really good with glass packs. I think that's why I like flowmaster so much, because it's so loud and doesn't have that "BLAH" sound magnaflow gives.
Why don't you just run a little pipe and dump in front of your axle? Surely your truck isn't so loud it's unbearable with cats?

You could always clamp on the glass pack to see if you like it. I say why bother, tho? Leave well enough alone!

If you like the way your truck sounds now, don't put a glass pack on it. Glasspacks do the same thing magnaflows do. They give you more of a BLAH sound. Oh, your 302 would still sound good, but it sounds better like it is IMHO. I put a 32'' glass pack on my truck with a high flow magnaflow cat and I hated it. It sounded very bland and annoying. Off went the cat and glass pack and on went the flowmaster. Sounds a lot like a Diesel now.
