whats wrong??

on my 94 psd.. it wont cold start very well at all if its below 50.. unless a lil eather is involved (even after i cycle it 10+times) i think that is prolly the gp solenoid.. when its trying to start there is white smoke from the tail pipe and under the hood.. any ideas?? also when it does start it smokes blue until it warms up.. it has been 3500 miles since my last oil change and the oil level hasnt dropped on the stick.. anyone know whats goin on here im still tryin to learn more bout this truck thanks!

The glow plug relay is on the top left side of the engine, passenger side. When you turn the ignition on, look at your volt gauge and see if it drops a lot. It will last usually around 2 minutes when cold. If the gauge doesn't drop when you turn on the ignition, then you have a glow plug problem, likely in the relay. Now, if you want to try this, and the glow plugs aren't working, pop the hood and take a screwdriver, a heavy one , and put it against the 2 big terminals on the glow plug selenoid. It will spark pretty good. Just hold it their and don't move. Have a hold of the handle, not the bare steel. It could burn you. Hold it their for about a minute, and then try to start it. If it fires right up, and assuming you didn't plug in the block heater, you have found your problem. Whatever you do, do not use ether with the glow plugs, which the glow plugs should work everytime you start your truck. You could blow up the engine. I'M NOT KIDDING!

Im with joe on this one, I would say that if the plugs werent shot then they are now. Ether is killer on these systems, it is a very big no no. Try what CampSpringsJohn said and then get back to us. The white smoke before start means that its getting fuel and the blue smoke after start means that it is burning oil(??) which could be injector o-rings. The smoke from under the hood could be the donut gasket between the up pipes and the turbo, they are fairly common.

Classic. I've seen guys poor some serious ether on warm 466's after working them hard to get them to start again. I still can't believe the head didn't blow off.
