Question clicking noise

HELP PLEASE I am hearing aclicking noise from the power distribution box while the truck is turned off with no key in the ignition. Also while driving the 4x4 light flashes on and off sparatically while hearing a clicking sound. I have also had to either jump start or put it on the battery charger 3 times this week. Does anyone have any suggestions on what my problem could be?

Check the fuses. It sounds like you have a short in either the 4x4 system or in the courtesy lights system. If I remember right , the two are linked to the same fuse. The clicking you hear is the relay. Check your fuses and let us know.

Sounds like a leaking windshield seal that has gotten water into the GEM/fuse panel under the dash. The GEM controls the 4x4 system among other things. This is a common problem on earlier models of the series of trucks. Get the windshield resealed and then dry out the GEM/fuse panel. If you are lucky, you won't have to replace the GEM(Generic Electronic Module). Good luck!

I had the same problem, there's a couple of of relay switches in inside fuse box, that's what the clicking sound is. They're bad. I had this same thing earlier this year. They killed my battery, and I found one blown fuse in the fuse box under the hood. total for battery and relay switches was about $100.

2000 4x4 F150 5.4L Supercab w/75,000 miles.

if your battery is still good, you'll hear the relays (they are the black boxes that are in the fuse box) that are clicking. I had to pull each fuse and check them, it was one of the small fuses on mine, I don't remember which one though.

The relays are clicking because of the short circuits that the water damage is causing. Blown fuses are the same problem. Get the windshield leak fixed and the water damage fixed or learn to live with things not working and dead batteries. Good luck!
