Worn Steering Column
Worn Steering Column
My '89 F-150 Supercab has a tilt wheel column. The tilt joint appears to be solid, but I can get quite a bit of flex up and down at the steering wheel. It feels like a worn out bushing or something. Helm hasn't had the shop manual for this vehicle available for the past 2 years. Anyone run into this before?

Right behind the lower shroud on the column there are four allen wrench bolts which will snug that tilt column right up. I did mine while I replaced a turn signal switch, but there must be an easier way to get to them. Might be possible to pull off the lower dash panels and get to them that way.
