Question 2001 Explorer wont shift

yesterday I was driving and hit a puddle, my wheels spun for a sec, then I parked. When I started to drive again it wouldn't shift into sec. When I let off the gas peddle once or twice then it would shift...I noticed that when cold it will shift ok if I don't get on it but as soon as it warms up it starts to do it again... has anyone had this problem before or can anyone help with some information???

Sounds like fluid is low or, the PRNDL switch is damaged but that is a guess (my 2cents)

Thanks but I took it in and the trans is toast... anyone getting rid of a trans? The trans is slipping through all gears from what the trans shop said... how easy are these to rebuild?

If the fluid was low it would do it all the time, and the selector switch in the dash has nothing to do with the correct operation of the transmission.

You should be able to stop by a transmission shop and have them plug in a tester. The transmission is electronically controlled and it is probably giving off a code that will narrow down the problem.

Good luck!

My friend, the PRNDL switch it mounted externally on the transmission (not in the dash, you are referring to the indicator), I had the same symptoms which I chased for almost a yr, replaced the switch cured the problem.
