You in fact can not lock the Altman Easy Latch from the inside. I am not saying it is impossible, but the difficulty outweighed the benefit. My name is Chris, Terry Altman and I are currently setting up Trique Manufacturing. We machine mostly interior pieces for classics, hot rods, and street rods. The Altman Easy Latch is the brain child of Terry Altman who is a long time F-100 fanatic. He has built 2 magazine covered, show winning trucks and has a long standing relationship with the F-100 community.
Many of the options available to solve this problem have been mentioned. Power locks, self-engineered lock rod, and or installing a lock cylinder on the drivers side of your truck.
I am however going to bring this up to Terry tomorrow and see if we need to revisit the lock situation. We will always do what we can to keep our customers happy and we always look forward to hearing from you as well. If there is anything we can help with please feel free to let us know
Our website is currently being worked on, but we will have our entire inventory online very soon. In the mean time drop us a line and we can answer any questions you may have.
Chris, Thank you. That is great news. The latch is a great product. If that one thing can be improved it would be fantastic! I appreciate your replies and help through email.
Always cool to see the manufacturers open to new ideas and concerns of the consumers. I will be interested to see what comes of the lock situation. I have been eyeing the Altman's for my project as well.
Pardon me if this has been noted earlier but another advantage I see in this setup is an additional access hole should you need to get inside that part of the door at a later date.
After discussing it, one thing came to mind. We can probably manage the linkage to cause the latch to lock by pushing the interior handle forward. The only problem is that if you lock the bear claw prior to closing the door you render the latch mechanism inoperable. The claws will not rotate as long as the lock is engaged. This sends us back to square one where electric lock solenoids or a lock cylinder are probably your best choices.
