The trick has lost oil pressure. I changed the oil and it was dark brown. I am guessing the screen is stoped up. Any ideas how to unstop it without jacking up the engine and pulling the pan? Mineral sprits???
Sounds like the Seafoam has done it's thing & loosened & stirred up a bunch of gell thats finally stopped up the oil sceen.
So imo the best thing to do would be to drop the pan & properly clean it & the pump screen.
While it's off, maybe pull a valve cover & have a look see at the top end & if it's all clogged up, use a shop vac to suck up as much of the loose stuff up as you can, then rod out the oil returns, flush the top end down with something like Varsol.
If you really don't want to remove the pan, then maybe consider going in through the oil drain hole with something like a garden sprayer loaded with Varsol, ect & see if you can flush out the pan & oil screen.
Sounds like this puppy has been rode hard & put up wet over the years!!!!
Usually a loss of oil pressure is due to worn main bearings. The pickup screen is fairly coarse and you'd have to have some very large chunks of debree to clog it. The oil filter does its job and will get pretty much anything of significance in the system. I'm sure not about your particular engine, you didn't mention any details, but I believe there is a bypass on the oil pump for startup pressure. If the screen is clogged the pump would pull oil in through this.
Had a mechanic listen to it and he said it sounds like the main bearings. Would seafoam or lucas cause this? I have had oil pressure problems in the past. Also had rotella 10w-30 in there.
I doubt it was the additives that caused this. Usually its caused by a bad pump (doubtful), very high miles, running low on oil, things like that. If the engine has good compression there's no need for a total rebuild if you want to save money. The oil pan can be removed and the bearings taken care of from underneath.
I like the seafoam so far. Engine runs as smooth as silk and oil pressure jumps up like it should.
Lets think about this some more. How does it go from running as smooth as silk, to needing the engine replaced???? The main bearings aren't gonna be happy & sound very good, if there is little or no oil pressure, because the pump screen is all clogged up with gel, stirred up by the Seafoam.
So maybe consider dropping the pan & cleaning it & the pump screen & maybe pulling the valve covers to see how things are on the top end & cleaning it up if needed, as I described above, then change the oil filter again & see how it goes, before yanking the engine.
