Hello everyone , I have an exhaust smell that comes in the cab from the heater, I can also smell other peoples exhaust from other cars . just wondering if anyone else has had this and what is the cause?
I just had this problem. It happened during a regen. I was towing a 14K fifth wheel on back roads at about 55 mph. This is the first time this has happened in my truck.

Thank JP.
The first part I'm not gonna comment on, as to the second . . . your trucks heater is taking in OUTSIDE AIR, if it is stinky OUTSIDE, you will smell it INSIDE. You can stop this by setting your truck to recirculate cab air by pushing the button on the dash.

That is true ,
But he shouldn't be smelling his own exhaust while driving. He could have an exhaust leak in the engine compartment, as I believe my truck also has. It gets so bad sometimes I can taste it in my mouth. So mine's on it's way back to the dealer. My truck just started doing this a couple thousand miles ago. Didn't have an odor in it all last winter.

Same issue here, had the re-flash done the day before it was suspended and noticed within about 1000 miles the smell, also much higher boost (20 -25lbs @ 75mph), and lack of power. Sounds like a lot of air noise from under the hood too.
Took it back once the re-flash was re-initiated (last week) and was told that they flashed it again but since the truck "wasn't throwing any codes" there wasn't much more that could be done.
With the various posts I've read regarding this, there must be something in common here. The local dealer won't address it without some sort of code.
Update,
Went to dealer today, definite cracked radiator, possible cracked egr cooler. Maybe the egr cooler is the culprit. They said they would check for exhaust leak in engine compartment. Dropping it off Friday, leaving on vacation Friday too. Will know when I get back what's up. Sidenote:
I had a reflash done 2 or 3 mos. ago to address the cruise control issue and since I have noticed more boost also @ normal road speeds. Not sure if the latest flash is any different, but the dealer told me they update the flashes when they do any warranty work, so I guess I'll find out.

thanks for the info jr. I would think it would have something to do with a exhaust leak, it seems to happen when i drive slow, or at a light.
Please keep me up to date because i will not get the truck in till after the new year.

interesting thoughts about the boost with the lastest reflash here. I thought that I noticed more boost on mine too. Had the reflash done just before they suspended it.
I have not had any of the other issues though, truck has been running great, have had it on a 900 mile heavy haul with no issues and saturday driving it out west.
I have been seeing a lot of blown flex joints on the passenger side turbo up-pipe lately. This is an exhaust pipe that goes from the rear of the right exhaust manifold to the turbocharger. For whatever reason, it seems to be only the right side that blows out.
You can usually hear a rushing air/whistle sound on acceleration and a loss of boost pressure. Also there is a fairly strong diesel exhaust smell from the engine compartment when the hood is open and the truck is idleing.
To replace this pipe, I have been lifting the cab. It is extremely difficult to replace this pipe any other way, although it can be done with much pain and suffering.
