Computer protection welding

Is disconnecting the earth cable at the battery adequate protection for an EEC-III computer, while welding on the truck - or does the computer itself need disconnecting somewhere?

Thanks

You should be ok without even unhooking the battery. I have welded on vehicles from all years all makes and never unhooked a battery or comp.

Yes, I have never seen the muffler shop disconnect the battery when they are welding an exhaust system on either.

i have always taken the neg. off the battery just in case. even if its ok to weld on it i would still take it off but it all depends on were the ground clamp is on the car/truck

Pop the ground cable off the battery, it's easy and eliminates the possibility of damaging the whole electrical system which includes the computer, cheap insurance just in case.

I was told the best and safest way is to pull both pos and neg lines and attach them together so the whole electrical system is at ground. That keeps any inductive action from taking place.
