So with this balmy -16 degree weather I've been enjoying here in MT, my truck is pitching a fit. Both the Brake light and ABS light have come on and won't go out. I had a similar problem on my 1996 F250 and it turned out to be a brake line pressure sender. This new to me truck also required me to put in a new rearend a couple of months ago. I found a used 10.25 out of a 1996 with the same 4.10 LS specs as my trashed one had with only 60K on it. I just reused the abs sensor that came with the replacement axle assy. So do you think I should look into the abs sensor on the rearend or that pressure sender. I also am not sure if the cheapo scan tool I have would pull any brake system codes. Any input would be appreciated.
Justin
You should pull a code from it and that should point you in a general direction. But you can't use your scanner cuz the trucks ABS system doesnt have a scannable feature, there is a better way to put that but i cant think of it. But if you take the glove box off there is a Black/Orange or Orange/Black wire that is at the base of the glove box. And i believe that you ground that wire and it will flash the ABS light giving you a # and that will correspond with a code. I think that a long flash is the first digit(above 9) and then the faster flashs are the second digit. So ________ __ __ __ would be 13.
That sounds like a PITA, plus I am not up to speed on Morse Code. I might just replace the pressure sensor, like I did on my 1996. I think my cost from the Fraud Dealer was only $16 or something like that. One of my employees mentioned that I had a brake light out the other day, but when I went to check it everything was working fine. I think this may be my first Gremlin for the winter season.
Ya both my lights are on too and the process looked like a PITA to me too so.... guess what they are still on. At first they agrivated me but I dont even notice them anymore, the one thing that stinks is that the ABS dont work while its on and its gotten hairy a few times on those wet days. When I do my brakes I'll fix that problem to.
