O.K. I am looking at getting me a used truck to get back into offroading,I really enjoyed trail riding and a little mud running,I am looking at a 2001 F150 4x4 supercab and a 2003 F150 FX4 4x4 what are the differances in these trucks?also are there after maket parts out there for these trucks, lift kits, wheels, tires. The rear axle also doesn't look like a 8.8 what is it?
Sorry about all the questions but the last truck I wheeled was a 85 F150 I built from the ground up.Now I need a little more room and I like the look of the 4 door. Thanks guys.
Also, the FX4 series has plates down below to protect certain parts. Skid plates, etc. So if you're off roading, that'll be a plus over a standard truck.
As the other's said I would look into the 03' FX4, it has the skid plate up front as well as more spark plug threads so you don't get the terrible tick and unfortunately a spark plug popping outta there.
You'll get lost in all the parts they offer for these trucks, I mean if I had the dough i'd be going all out on my truck but I don't so I'm sitting on a stock suspension. Definately should look at summit racing, jcwhitney, or for a suspension lift even try skyjacker. Just do research on what you want and you'll be set.
However if you do decide to go the 4x4 without the FX4 option skid plates can be put on, I haven't done it but it can't be too difficult to through some diamon plate skid plates or something on there.
ahh things keep popping up, take into consideration the condition and miles of the truck as well, i mean if you're looking to go offroading mods and things will need to be replaced so ya know conisider miles on the drive train too.
