I too went the cheap route and picked up some new Mobil 1 oil, tomorrow I am going to pick up a Napa Gold oil filter, I have heard these are good oil filters, hopefully that will solve the problem.
Napa filters are made by Wix and ARE good filters.
Heres a picture of whats inside a filter, the antidrainback valve is visible as rubber under the ring of holes on the filter. These sometimes go bad, deform, or are just rjunk right out of the factory. This is what leads to the problem some of you are describing. make sure you see some rubber/silicone/etc under that ring of holes!
Below is an amsoil filter and its the cadillac of filters.
I'm having this exact problem and hope it isn't the pump, I am about due to change the oil however I remember it doing this not long after I changed the oil when we got our first below 30's temps.
I use Mobil 1 5w30 and I believe the filter was FRAM Tough Guard. Should I buy a NAPA Gold instead next time?
OK so I called the ford dealership to get an estimate on changing out the oil pump the service tech said it would be expensive and advised me to instead change oil and the filter and if that didn't work he'd quote me a price on work, kinda weird he didn't want to give me a price right then and lastly he said to take the 5-30 back and get 5-20, after taking the 30 back, I found some 5-20 Royal Purple for 6.00 a quart!! So this morning I changed out my filter and oil, tonight the temps are going to drop below zero again, so I hope this works.
Just FYI, if you hadn't put that info in your post, we'd have had to ask if your Ex was a gasser or a diesel. Since they're fundamentally different when it comes to starting, it matters a great deal having that info posted.
Please do what most of us do, and add your vehicle specs (year, trim, 2-wheel or 4x4, type of engine and size, and mods) to your signature so whenever you ask a question about your truck, we won't have to ask what you have, before we try and provide an answer for ya!

ok I hate to get off topic but I looked around for a signature option under edit profile and couldn't find anything, I also looked under user cp and didn't see anything under that, I found edit vehicle specs and that gets listed under timeslips, so where is this signature option?
I have heard a lot of very questionable stuff about royal purple this last year. Honestly I wouldn't run it if you had a gun to my head. Some have had great luck, but a few have lost motors and it looked like the oil was to blame. Hopefully they reverse whatever changes they made down at royal purple.
Ok guys, here is the skinny on what happened with my truck. I had slapped a heater element on my oil sump a couple of days ago, and have been leaving it plugged in all night. The next REALLY cold morning (read zero or below) I still had the same issue.
Therefore I decided to drop it off at the nearest Ford dealer yesterday afternoon. I told them the issues I have been having, and they said they would look into it. Well, today I got a call from my service adviser, saying that my truck was ready to be picked up. They tested the oil pressure gauge, and ended up installing a new sending unit and pressure switch.
Total cost for service..... less than $120. Oh, and they tended to a couple small recall items the previous owner hadnt bothered with. Hope this helps you guys out, and that your fix is as simple as mine was.
2000 LTD, 4x4, BIG BAD V10 BABY, YEAH!
