So after getting back to Fl I fired up my truck after it sat for about 3 months, all went like I thought it would, except my brakes are gone. When I left they were no where close to being this bad. At first I thought it could just be the rust build up on my rotor and drove it some and it was clear that it was just getting worse. Now my rear pads arnt even touching the rear rotors excpt for a nice little groove..
So Im going with new pad and rotors and I wanna go with slotted. Ive looked at the ones on here Applied Rotor Technology . Anyone run these? Any other recomondations?
Chris,
I got Power STOP rotors from an online dealer. They were the same as Power Slots for about half the price. If I had to guess they are made by the same factory from what I heard in talking to guys with Slots and what markings their rotors/boxes had.
I love my Power Stops with Hawk pads. Would do it again in a heart beat (if I could afford to leave the truck sit while parts were shipped) My truck sits ALL the time bc I have a work truck and the brakes did the same thing yours did. The rotors got all pitted and punky then the pads started coming apart from all the rust. Guess I should burn more fuel in the ol girl.
BTW, did you move that muffler??? I can send you a check for shipping if you still have it/want to get rid of it. I moved and started farming about four months ago and haven't had a chance to get a hold of you (or get the internet).

It sounds to me as if you should do a complete brake fluid flush. There is no way that the brakes should get worse by sitting for 3 months unless your fluid has gathered so much water from the air that is causing the caliper pistons to corrode and not function properly.
Brake fluid likes to drink water from the surrounding air, the more humid, the more contamination.
I forgot to add some info about the front brakes. The fronts work but it sounds like metal against metal ( or a little gnome is stabbing it with and ice pick) So Im not sure why the rear pads wouldnt be touching but the fronts would.
