ok i have an 07 f550 with the 6.0 and it died on me this morning. i was cruising down the road and it just died, no chugging noise or lights, just died. i have check all of the normal things like filters and fuses and it is getting flow up to the secondary fuel filter( the one on the engine). i am a heavy equipment mechanic who just got screwed into the position of head mechanic for all equipment on this crew so i am in a crash course on all of the 6.0 6.4 and 7.3 diesels. if you guys have any ideaqs let me know i am up for trying anything, i would like to get it figured out today so i dont have to take it to the ford house tomorrow. it is pretty embarassing when the head mechanics truck breaks down lol, now my 15000 lb toolbox is no longer mobile which is not a good thing.
anyways i got a crappy little actron scanner today and plugged it in and it had no stored or active codes and it said all looked good. this is coming from my previous knowledge of the powerstrokes, basically just hearing buddies talk about them but does this at all seem like a high pressure oil pump problem? it doesnt even try to fire sounds like a gas engine turning over with no spark. please give me a hand asap thanks
this is going to be a in depth thing, could be a blown hpop stc fitting, check the icp pressure on the passanger side valve cover for any leaking, if its leaking it might be the problem if it aint, it could also be a ficm/ecm, this could cause a engine shut down problem. i am still leaning toward the hpop stc fitting check the below links for the accurate description of the detailed repairs.
Unplug the ICP sensor and see if it starts.005-07 F-SuperDuty/Excursion No-Start, High Pressure Oil System Leak:
Some trucks may develop an oil leak at the high pressure oil pump outlet fitting. This will cause a no-start condition as the computer needs to see at least 500 PSI before it will activate the injectors. In some cases the no-start will be intermittent and/or an intermittent stall with no codes will occur. If high pressure oil leak diagnosis indicates a leak at the pump, the pump outlet fitting (W301727) and the discharge tube block should be replaced with fitting and bracket kit 4C3Z-9B246-A. Do not torque the outlet fitting beyond 38 ft/lbs. If the leak is traced to the branch tube running through the engine block, replace with P/N 5C3Z9J332-B (requires removal of the transmission, flywheel and rear engine cover; new flywheel bolts required). TSB 06-14-6.
I'm reading all this and thinking that what I know about diesels is lightyears behind the times! When I was working on diesels, it was, not working? Are you getting fuel? If so, are you getting white smoke from the intake? How is the injector timing? It was simple! Compression, fuel, and air.
ya i work on cats and it is still that simple, they only stop running when you run out of fuel. this thing is ticking me off cause i am a damn good mechanic, just no experience in this area and now i have 20 of em with different engine to take care of

Could this this be the line between a auto mechanic and a auto technician?
