2004 f150 5.4 4wd 36000 miles.Everthing on the truck works fine, but once in a while it will sound like i am draging the muffler while starting out.Trans. works fine during this noise.no check engine lites or any thing else. Pulled codes and Ford dealer found nothing(motor & Trans)This one is realy driving me nuts.Hope someone will have an idea. Thanks
apparently the emergency brake is bad on these trucks (04-05) and cause problems, hanging up etc rather the cable sizes up or the liner on the brake shoes comes apart
Checked out brakes as posted, not the problem.Had the same noise today and put the truck in park, noise was the same execpt it had a whinning noise with it this time.First time in the morning is not my best time,so i got back into truck and drove it ,,,,hard.Well the noise stoped and everything works fine.
No check engine lights or any sign of anything being wrong.Works fine, just once in a while it makes like its draging the muffler.
So it makes the rattle noise even when your in park and not moving? If that is the case maybe there is a loose heat sheild or something like that is just reverberating with the vibration of the truck somewhere and isnt anything mechanical. Just a thought.
Yeah. Mabey a heat shield (or shields) that surround the cats are rattling. Go underneath the truck with a hammer and lightly tap the cats and areas of the exhaust system and listen for rattles.
I want to thank all of you for your time on this problem,as luck would have it i found that my little moter that puts 4/wheel drive in or out was hung up half way between in or out. Some lite tapping with a hammer worked. Also was told to use 4/wheel more often so as to keep it working.Again THANKYOU
