Well, I believe it is time to replace the battery in my truck. Have noticed that the guages sweep all the way over if let to sit the weekend. Meter is showing 11.9x volts after 24 hours. While running getting 14.something.
Overall, can't complain one bit! That is the original battery and I took delivery of the truck (01 Lariat 4x4) in Sept. 2000.
Probably will get a Motorcraft as a replacement as I have been extremely satisified.
Theres nothing wrong with staying with Motorcraft, but realistically, you can get a good brand batt for less....While Im NOT a normal patron of Autozone,I can say that there are about only two things the have that are good....OIL,and Batteries.....They stand behind their warranties, and in the 30 + years Ive been "shadetree mechanicing" Ive had only 1 Autozone Batt be bad,and they replaced it no questions asked.
I live in the frigid north. -20 isn't unheard of. Ever since a buddy recommended Catapiller batteries, I've been using them in all my cars. In my last truck, it lasted 7 years when I sold it. It is about the same price as Motorcraft. At first, you'll read the same cold cranking amps. But if you read the fine print, Cat rates theirs at 0. Motocraft at 32.
So if you have a Cat office near by, check them out.
Intersting on CAT, I may check it out. The Motorcraft is only $15.00 more than autozone and a couple of other locals places. That difference in price was to help make my decision to stick with it.
I run 4 batteries in a bass boat and have to replace them every few years depending on the brand. I have found it pretty consistant durability within a brand, but it varies greatly between different brands.
The truck doesn't see 20 below much, but it has periodically.
I would stick with motorcraft, they are a great battery. Last fall I replaced the original one in my 98. If that lasted ten years, then I'll buy another.
wow - wish this thread came up a week earlier. I just put my second battery in my 03 - however this time had to put an alternator in with it. Really saw no sign either. Just driving home one day and the electronics started flickering and within a tenth of a mile - calling the flatbed. Considering pulling that Die hard, but they already told me no returns. Definitely sounds like Motorcraft is the way to go.

Back YEARS(too many to count) ago I worked for Sears Auto Center here
in Memphis..The Die-Hards were actually no better than a standard batt.I had to replace just as many of them under warranty(bad cells) than "normal" ones.
In all actuality most automotive batteries are manufactured by just a couple of builders.I however definatley trust the Motorcraft brand...
