If you think the regulations that were bad happened long ago, wait till you start paying the price for stuff at the store when this goes into effect.
Go out on 15 and watch all the trucks bringing stuff to LA.
I bet 75% of them will not be doing that in 2010.
Back in 83 I ran two loads of meat a week from Kansas to LA.
If I were still driving, I would run east instead of west, your steaks are in Holcolm Kansas if you want them you can go get them.
As of Jan 1 all reefer unit crossing the cali line have to be equipped with an exhaust regen system at a cost of 6000 to 8000 bucks many truckers have said no more cali maybe going to ks for their beef is not a bad idea they will have fun trying to eat all that produce though.
Well folks every other cali emission law has migrated out of cali how long do you think it will be before this affects the rest of the country.
This is something to think about every reefer co. doing business has to either buy new 2008 or later to cross the cali line. Everybody that crosses the line has to buy newer trucks Every owneroperater that hauls out of or into the port local or long distance has to be upgraded.
Now even if these laws never migrated out of cali (doubtful) the whole country will have to pay more to get their products there is no way it will only affect the people that brought it on.
If they only switched loads at the border the locals will have to charge more to get to the border then the crossdocking facillities have to be paid for every man woman and child will be paying the price.
I'm in Illinois so we are like Cali without the lovable Governor. haha!
I think it's all smoke and mirrors, you cannot solve a problem by focusing on only the problem...
If we could allocate 10% of the $$ invested into war, and Uh... oh yeah, regulations to bilk people and American companies out of their ability to generate living or a profit. Give it farmers to make cleaner burning bio-fuels, and incentivize it's use in American built and driven trucks.
Or just blame low priced meat for Cancer rates... Easy is good, Right?
I tried bio didn't notice any of the benifits that there was supposed to be and am not very interested in it until they start making it out of something other than food or feed commodities or anything grown on land in use for farming now. If they come up with something that grows on otherwise unusable land I will rethink my thoughts.
My uncle bought a ranch and purchased the water rights with these were worth as much as the land a couple of years later one gov agency decided that since he wasn't irrigating they would take away his water rights. He had sold his farm and all equipment when he bought the ranch so to keep his water rights he had to buy 2 circle sprinklers and all supporting equipment have irrigation wells developed then after all this another govt agency barred him from plowing his land because it had never been farmed he was out payments and interest for 2 years while this was in court.
What I'm trying to say is the same people that want to get away from oil also stops progress putting worthless land into use on switchgrass or other feasible crops for bio.
Joe the answer is basically no cali is giving grants to upgrade or buy new equipment so we will not be able to compete in the end as us small guys can't afford the equipment or the less fuel mileage we will get at currant freights. with the little guys gone the rates can be controlled better by the big guys. so stock up on vaseline just my take on it.

there actual is a way of making bio diesel out of algae, im not a expert on it but from what i understand the strand of algae used can grow almost anywhere( even out in the desert). They use the sugars from the photosynthesis and created an alchohol based bio diesel, its pretty neat but it isnt very stable.
There are several alternatives they are not feasible price wise yet but they will get there eventually the more we restrict drilling it will eventually be feasible at any cost.
The even in the desert is the point I was trying to make the same powers that outlaws oil outlaws land use they work against themselves. they also put restrictions on our engines to make them use more fuel all in the name of environmentally friendly witch I am all for if there was a common sense clause in it.
Until it is better and cheaper than diesel and gas they won't buy it either you dont see them living in dirt houses or using corncobs do you. Gore is a fine example of what I am talking about.
