Viper Remote Start Settings
First of all I live in dallas so I don't deal with real cold temps but it does get below freezing for a week or two. I also hunt in missouri and amarillo so it will see the teens and single digit cold from time to time but not on a prolonged or consistant basis. My question is at what temperature should I have the truck start up and run, for how long and how often should it do this?
I think I am going to have the alarm set to silent or "beat down mode". Other question is I see where my truck may not be able to connect to wait to start light, if so what is the best delay to use before start. I would like to set it once for all the conditions I would see but I could see where a 10 second delay would get pretty old when 95% of the weather I am in is above 80 degrees.
Last question is how long should it continue to run to cool down the turbos most of my driving is highway at about 70 to 80 mph.
Any other suggestions on settings I haven't mentioned are also welcome.
Thanks
I don't use the automatic turbo timer as most of the time I don't need to leave the truck cool off. My EGTs drop below 400 by the time I get parked. When I am on a long trip and want to let it cool off I just hit the remote start button before I turn the key off and take it out. I'll let it run for a little while and then hit the remote start button again to kill the engine after I think it has cooled off enough.
I wouldn't bother setting it up to start and run at a certain temp either. A deisel engine takes a long time to get up to temp, especially if it's just idling, so you would have to let it run for a long time just to warm it up. Doesn't really make sense, and you'd probably just end up with wet stacking and oil dilution problems. Just start it up 15 minutes before you leave and that will get it warmed up enough to start driving it. Just take it easy for the first few miles till it gets totally warmed up.
I, like Beerstalker, am usually cooled down by the time parked, if not I use his method or just sit in the truck for another minute.
