I know, a lot of guys have been using ELC's for years with no problems. The problem with ELC's is that they are either OAT (organic acid technology) or HOAT (hybrid organic acid technology) and there are supposed to be compatibility issues with the copper injector cups and the water pump seals. I can't remember the exact year but I think it was 2000 that IH started using stainless injector cups and Ford started using ELC's. It may take forever for the ELC's to effect the injector cups or it may never happen but I don't want to take the chance so I just use the recommended low silicate green stuff and add the SCA's.

thanks 96 i didnt know that. so i should stay away from the elc's? im with you rodney i dont want to take a chance

Gentlemen,

Pay close attention to this antifreeze talk. I lost a IH DT 366 engine in one of my relative new tow trucks due to cavitation using green antifreeze and not checking the SCA in it. It had 120,000 miles when it happened. A $12,000 mistake!!! I've done extensive research on this and many smart truck mechanics didn't know all of this either. There are several good antifreezes out there but don't go cheap and don't use tap water in the system. Ditto on the penstrips for testing and ditto that the SCA/DCA levels can be too high causing geling as well as too low.

I use Rotella ELC red in all of my trucks and vehicles now although I just purchased a 6.0 and read that it shouldn't use anything but the Ford Gold or compatible. Cavitation is real and it will bite you in the hindend.
