If the cable is broke....take a look through the grill, and see if you can grab the cable from there with a pair of needle nose....you will have to grab casing and all and give it a pull to the left side of the truck, or your right if your standing in front of it.
It might feel like it does nothing because its already unlatched, and the hood just isnt comming up. Have someone hold the hood handle out, and go to the hood and hit it with your palms, see if it pops up. Just a thought......................Drew.
yep its a ford, gotta smack it every once in awhile...once open w-d 40 the release n lockn mechinism plus the pivit points of the hinges should be ok if yer cable isnt broke but like chono sez its probably released already. lube it up, and it should pop up next time.
Ditto, chrono4 has it pegged. The latches tend to get sticky after while and if the hood has ever been off the truck or gotten tweaked a bit, the initial release mechanism (cable release) still works but the hood doesn't always pop up. The "smack with your palms" trick is pretty common actually. Once you get it open stuff the contents of a tube of powdered graphite into that mechansim. I avoid the use of petroleum-based compounds up there in front where they do little but catch all the crud blowing in under the hood.
