Question 1999 V10 Problem

Hello im new to this fourm.
i have a 1999 ford V10 with 81k miles.
12" lift with 40" tires
yesterday i took a garden hose and rinsed off the engine from under my hood with the engine off.(yeah i know..not a good idea)and it sat for about an hour..i went to drive..and it seems like its not bangin on all 10 cylinders.
it *putters*.
It almost seems like its trying to get this one cylinder to go but keeps misfiring or somthing.
Any ideas to why i am having this problem?
Thanks
Joe

He's right, I did the same thing with my V10. The coil boots are probably cracked so they let water down in the plug hole and caused all kinds of missing problems. You will have to use compressed air to blow the water out of the plug hole. While you are in there, you might want to consider replacing your plugs or at least retorquing them correctly. Use the search engine here for the procedure and follow it to the letter. Mine shorted out 2 of the COPS so they had to be replaced as well. Dielectric grease is also a must when you are reassembling as it keeps the water out and allows for easier disassembly later. Don't wash these motors unless you are prepared for problems.

Whenever I want to wash a Ford modular, I resolve to either do the plugs or pull the wires/COPS and do a good cleaning. Because water WILL get in there.

When you remove all the COPs, use dielectric grease on the boots around the top where it meets the plug, AND where it seals to the COP, AND around the seal area where it seals to the head. With the dielectric grease around the head seal of the boot, I hardly ever get water in there again even when I wrongly decide to hose off the motor

You don't have to pull plugs. Just the boots.
