Ive been noticing my truck will sometime stall out in reverse when the truck is cold. It acts like the tc is locking up but i dont see how it is. If i throw my switch for the tc lock it will not lock
Could it be something sticking in the trans or tc somehow grabbing?
it has done it a few time in D before. Never tried in 1. Its so random that i cant really predict it.
What are you thinking specifically inside that is going wrong
My 97 did that when I bought it. Would stall in reverse, and when I would shift it into 1st gear. I'm not a transmission guy, but I believe the seals between the clutch packages were letting fluid through that wasn't suppose to be doing, if that makes any sense. By the way, it only did that when it was warm, never when cold.
Thought I read on here before that it might be your transmission filter loose from its housing. They make a clip to keep it from slipping out of the fitting. Just a thought.
Mine does this to but only since i did coon's mod to the accumulator body. I think that it has to do with the ........, words not coming to me at the moment, but they are the vavle type things that are part of the accuumlator. I got mine outta a different tranny so i had no down time and i think they were faulty or something. I just kinda deal with it and hope the tranny lasts till next summer.
So if you go to the TSB section and find something that sounds like the problem your having...like the one I found sounds like the issue here:

Where do you find more information - like what might fix it? (let me guess - you just ask on this forum!?) Are the TSB's a good place to start or are the too generic?
Mark, when i go into reverse i have to hold on the brake for 3-5 seconds before it ingauges and then it takes off like a bat outta hell, does that sound like a low line pressure thing or is it something completly different? If i kinda feather the throttle a couple times like its a standard it works quicker and it is less harsh.

Welcome to the site! It's always nice to see new people.
As for the TSB's, I never check them mainly because I forget they are here! Thanks for reminding me about them. I'm sure they're a good source to check out, but there are a lot of folks on here that have 1st hand experience in dealing with whatever problem you may be having.
You will find over time that there are certain people on here that can help you in ways that a TSB won't. They'll be able to talk you through some problems, and give you short cuts that can make a tough job a lot easier.

A delayed engagement and fast take off does sound like low line pressure. It could be from any of the causes I listed above.
thanks mark, i'll check that stuff out tommorow when i get the truck from work. How do i know if the filter is loose? Does it just pop into the socket?
drilling the holes in the accumulator body will not cause this concern, more likely its what mark stated since reverse demands more line pressure and the clutch can drag causing the stall
