<hr style="color: rgb(209, 209, 225);" size="1"> <!-- / icon and title --> <!-- message --> I have a 2000 7.3 and it has been randomly stalling (no power loss, just like shutting the key off) when it is cold out. It acts very similar to when my cps went out a few months ago, but there is a new black cps in the truck now. The truck runs great when warm and only seems to die when driving below 35 degrees, coolant temp at operating range, and the ebpv activated. It has died several times over the last few weeks but has restarted on its own immediately (6 speed in gear) every time but once tonight. The check engine light came on as the truck slowed down, then it took several attempts over about 5 minutes to get the truck restarted. The truck has intake, exhaust, dp tuner, and a 38r turbo if that makes any difference. Stalling occurs in the stock tune as well as the ecco and tow tunes. Is there any chance that the ebpv is causing the truck to stall? I would think it was the CPS, but that was just changed and this problem has been going on for about a month now, but only when the ebpv is activated and never when the valve is open.
Thanks
Saw a similar thread not that long back with similar issue, turned out to be something with the tuner. Have you tried yanking the tuner, maybe you have a dirty contact where it plugs into the ECM. That's nothing a pencil eraser wouldn't clean off, but just to test you might try it.
Where did you get the CPS. Remember, new doesn't always mean good. The best thing would be to get the codes pulled and see what that's telling you. Sounds kind of like a CPS to me too. You didn't happen to get one from the auto parts store did you?
Also make sure the chip is not loose, or the wires to the switch don't have a bad connection.
I tried pulling the codes today but the code readers I had at work (parts store chain) would not pull soft codes. I will swap out the cps for the spare one I have from ford tomorrow and talk to a few mechanic friends to see if there scanners will work.
Thanks for the help
Well the truck died again tonight, but I did notice that the display on my dp was dead and was back on when the truck restarted. I have not had time to pull the tuner or swap the cps yet, family in town for graduation. Also no check engine light this time and I watched the tach and it stayed right with the rpms as the truck slowed while in gear and restarted. I am going to try and pull the chip tomorrow or saturday if I can get some spare time.
