One thing after another, this thing better pay off one day... There is no such thing as "finishing it" and then go drive it around. There is so much more BS to doing a custom built race motor than what it seems, aside from the money. I had the truck up and running, driving around etc. I sent the chip out to get it tweaked a little bit, so it could at least be streetable. It idled so rough before, the truck actually idled alot smoother WITHOUT a chip on it... Tony said it would idle like *** without a chip on it
Anyway while i am waiting for that to return, i figure i should investiate my oil leak. It is coming from the external pressure feed line to the turbo. This pedestal setup is not like the stock one, there is a flat plate that covers the normal mounting area, then two tabs where the lower bolt holes for the T6 flange bolt through, and into the back of the up-pipes. There is a fitting through the plate that connects to the hose. To get to my leaking fitting there, i have to remove the turbo. Well this monster weighs over 40 pounds, and it is so big it rubs on the bottom of the wiper cowl, getting it out is not a walk in the park!
Finally i removed it this evening, and noticed more than a few blades on the compressor had chipped edges. (the previous owner did not run an air filter, on a sled pulling truck). I decided to remove the wheel, i would put a new one on while it was out. So much for that, i broke the end of the shaft off while trying to remove the nut, which is a REVERSE ROTATION nut. Anyway i also found out both the compressor, and the turbine oil seals were passing oil, the reason for my blue smoke and oil usage. Plus it had about 1/8" of in/out play! Anyway it would need rebuilding, so i looked around, and found a brand new, in the box Borg Warner turbo, the exact same one that i have now, just new, and not broken (yet). Do you know this is the exact same turbo used on Detroit Series 60 OTR truck engines, that displace over 14 liters? Yeah, the exhaust inlet gasket has Detroit logo on it.
I bought it, and plan on keeping the one i have now and modifying it to 88mm compressor inducer (3.46") to use in my compound charger setup later. Anyway, here is a picture of it. Sorry for the ernest-like post, i just figured i'd update a little since i havent been on much.

Oh now, eventually there is...just not as quick as you would like. You'll get it figured out soon enough and be driving it around trouble free. Sucks about the turbo, but glad to see that you were able to find a new one.
So turbo and chip, then you can be driving it around, hopefully without any more issues?
No there will be more im sure, lol. Thanks for the positive encouragement though. Now i just need to sell this rolling chassis to pay off some stuff and work my way to a procharger!

Kris, I can go back and probably quote you on your observations of a daily driver 600+hp truck and it's daily driver streetability. You are in another area now with a turbo that is all top end. It will be a dog driving around. Those injectors are too much for a run to the Sonic with that turbo. Not gonna happen. You are now everything or nothing. Is that what you are saying in this thread? All in? You may have been better served with compounds IOT get some tip in. I had some idling like a$$ at first with my injectors. I had to get that fixed with tuning.
I know I am probably not much help here, but I was looking forward to an a$$kicking ride on your part. Ya gotta be able to get out of the hole buddy, or all may be lost.

Not if you have twin turbos, a smaller turbo that will spool fast and it will drive the big one.
Procharger? I know Buddy and them have one up and running, but haven't heard of anybody else. Are you going to be second in line for one of those? Has Buddy even posted up a dyno sheet from the white truck yet.
BTW glad you found a NIB, maybe that will do the trick.
That is a big turbo. Shame you have to get another, but you may be better off. Can't wait to see the dino and vids of the truck in action. I am watching from the sideline.
i hear ya! when u own one of these trucks the "cost of maintenance" is a big issue. or its becoming one with me anyways. i'm sure you all know.
in the past year with the cost of fuel + maintenance = part time job just to drive!
Well that is not the turbo i need come to find out.
Mine is still an S400 but is different, has a smaller turbine wheel etc that one won't bolt up, plus it's a 5" outlet on the downpipe. So, i cancelled that and called around for prices, and just the centersection i need without housings, is over $800
Think of how much easier your life would be if you were broke and had a stock motor like some of us... there are tons of stock turbos laying around! I'm sure you'll come across something to get you going cheaper than the $800 parts... any large truck salvage yards in your neck of the woods?
You'll get it sorted out, Kris. You have gone waaaaaaayy past bolt-on stuff, and there will be bugs to work out. I look forward to hearing how the compounds work out!!
