Finishing up the exhaust on my 90 F150 5.0 4x4. Started with some ebay headers, ended up welding some mandrel bends to snake up and around the trans crossmember and transfer case. Dual 2.5" into a single 3'' muffler, sounds really cool.
Question - no tailpipe yet. I might just exit it in front the passenger rear tire, since I cant seem to locate a 3" tailpipe. Is there any pro/con to having it exit before or after the rear tire?
hey sry to get off topic of thread but 95f350xl is that just bedliner undercoating as your fender flair looking stuff or what it looks realy cool...i have been thinking about undercoating up to the lip of the body along the bottom of my truck
Didnt certain F-150s come stock like that? Like in the 97-04 style. It makes sense, less pipe to push spent gas through. As i remember it was just a single standard exhaust exit, nothing fancy.
Yea its just herculiner. Im eventually going to do the bottom lip portion of the truck.
Yes there were some 97+ F150s that came with it like that. Just 1 2 1/4 pipe out the side. I love it out the side, it sounds good, and looks hot rod style.
I have to say that I am not a fan of the side exit in front of the wheel setup. My friend has a truck like ours and another friend of mine has a 2nd Gen "L" and both of them have complained about the same issue with the exhaust making the rear wheel dirty.
I prefer either 2 pipes out the back, or 2 pipes behind the tire like the older trucks and 1st gen "L", or just turndowns/dumps. I really do like how its sounds dumped, but it can be annoying on a daily driver. Thats why mine isnt that way anymore. I have found that this is the most aggressive sounding with the deepest tone. If you have a Bronco of course you can't really do this. This is just my thoughts.
well if you have a show truck i can see it being a problem. But if the truck isnt running top notch it might throw a little carbon on the rim. My buddies L had the stock cats and Flowmasteres and i dont ever remember his pass rear rim being any dirtier than any other rim. I like how it doesnt have to go through extra pipe over the rear end.
I've actually been watching to see if the side exit in front of the rear wheel caused that wheel to get dirty quicker, and it hasn't been an issue here. My side exit doesn't stick out past the body at all (no chrome tip or anything fancy), and I'm running 10" wide polished aluminum wheels (which do stick out a bit from the body). I'll try to get a picture when I get a chance.
