Ok, did another search till i'm blue in the face, and can't find much info.
2000 F250 CC 4x4, v10, stock exhaust except for ebay Y pipe. Original plan was to use a 3" single in/3" single out Flowmaster 50 SUV in place of the stock muffler, with stock piping to a 3.5" SS 12" tip. Haven't installed it yet.
I've since found on ebay a 2.5" mandrel bent dual tailpipe set up, rear exit, with hangers and tips for a very good price (if I get it, might have my local exhaust shop bend the tailpipes for side exits or angled rear exit). I could then exchange the FM 50SUV I got for a single in/dual out muff.
I like the looks of dual tailpipes, but will I lose any performance with 2.5" pipes? Will they sound crappy?
I know the stock piping is SS and adequate for my needs, but if I can get a better sound with dual piping out of the muffler then all the better. If not, then i'll probably just stick with the single exhaust.
IMO the dual pipes are a waste. Two 2.5" pipes will far outflow one 3" single mandrel bent pipe so you shouldn't be concerned there. The tone and sound of the single vs dual will be a little different however it is not going to be a huge difference. The best setup if you want to run a dual tailpipe setup is to get a single in dual out muffler. The thing I don't like about it is the tailpipes will be unequal length and cause possible spare tire interference if not done right. As you may have guessed by now I'm in favor of keeping the single 3" tailpipe.
You may also find your exhaust note may be a little "unique" with the ebay y-pipe on there so that is another reason I would stick with the single tailpipe. Adding a nice 4" or 5" stainless tip about 12" long adds a nice touch. I have a 4" x 12" long rolled lip tip on mine.
I have a single in dual out flowmaster super 10 on my 2000 6.8l v10 excursion. I put like a 3" dual tip at the end of each and it dumps right in front of the rear wheel on both sides. I love it, my vote is for the dual.
This is more of a personal taste of sound issue. Are you looking for more power, more noise, is it a matter of looks?
Does the state you live in have restrictions on modifing the exhause on a cat equipped exhaust? If so does your state require a annual state emmisions inspection and would this issue be enforced?
Make sure you try and find a like set up installed on a V10 truck and you like the sound.
A V10 does not sound like a V8 when both exhaust are modified...the V10 has a much more busy sound to me.
Good Luck,

Good Luck,
Thanks, and you're right, it is a matter of personal taste. I think what it boils down to is that I prefer the look of the dual tailpipes, but I don't want to "screw" up the sound. I realize v10's are finicky when it comes to exhaust, making decent sound without being obnoxious. That's why I started down this path with a single in/out muffler and SS tip. I happened to run across this dual kit reasonbly priced on ebay, looks-wise that's what I prefer, but like I said I don't want to mess up the sound.
My state has no laws about messing with cat equipped exhaust, nor does it have annual emissions testing (at this time). In my neck of the woods, v10's aren't too common, so it's difficult for me to find someone with a similar truck with modified exhaust to listen to. I have resorted to youtube and this site which is extremely helpful, and thank you again for your input.
If you do wind up going the dual route, please post a sound clip. I'm leaning that way with mine, but like you, a lot of people have saind it sounds funny with duals. I have seen one V10 with duals in my area and it actually sounded pretty decent, I think it was a 05 or 06 model.
I've got a vid camera on my phone. I'll try to take a vid and sound this week and post it up. I'm not sure how good it is, haven't really used it yet, but we'll see. Right now it's dumping down buckets of sleet, so it'll have to wait for a bit.
I went with duals on my 01 for the looks. Really have never been behind it to hear how it sounds, but all the guys at work seem to like it, and with it being a CC LB dont hear much noise in the cab.
