I am in the process of researching injectors and it seems that stage 1 injectors flow around 160cc of fuel and stage 2 injectors flow the same but have larger nozzles. To confuse me even further, there are stage 2 kits that seem to be nothing but a stock injector with a bigger nozzle. What is the real difference between stage 1 and 2 injectors? I am planning on putting injectors in my early 99 very soon as well as adding a larger turbo housing. If I go with a stage 2 with large nozzles and a big turbo housing on my rebuilt turbo will that be a good combo?
The differences between Stage I's and II's depends on where you get your injectors from. Vendors don't have a set "such and such CC equals stage I", etc. So they pretty much market what they want.
Injectors with larger nozzles can provide a bit more power with correct tuning. However, they also typically smoke more, and EGT's are higher.
As for aftermarket injectors on a rebuilt early 99 turbo....... that's probably not a combo I would prefer on my truck. Even going with a 99.5+ turbo and a larger turbine housing is still not the best combo with those sized injectors. One PSD owner who visits other forums races with me at Bandimere. He ran some DIY Stage II injectors on a modified stock turbo, and the turbo did hold together. However he had EGT issues, and even spoolup wasn't what he wanted. He swapped out to a GTP38R BB turbo and shaved 2/10th's off the quarter mile with just that upgrade alone. His EGT's dropped, and his spoolup improved. Overall he was very pleased with the difference in performance and driveability.
So how well would a modified stock turbo and 160 cc singles with stock nozzles do? I guess larger nozzles will result in less driveablility? I have made my mind up that I am going with singles because the only drawback seems to be noise but I like the way the OBS trucks sound anyway.

with your mods stage ones would be good..but I would recommend a regulated return fuel system..you will need to send your DP tuner back for a re burn to run single shots as well..the noise level of the SS are only at idle..under power they are just like the SD sound...a RR kit and a High pressure cross over hose will lessen the noise some to..
I am looking at dpppower's single shot stage ones. They are remanufactured. I see now I need to update my sig, as I have added the Cross connect kit with the HPX line. Ron, what turbo are you running withe the SS stage 2's?
the CCK will do the trick..but it doesnt add any more fuel to the heads then it did stock...these SS will use some fuel if you play hard or tow heavy.....a RR kit will feed more fuel...i have a stock 99.5 turbo with a 1.00 exhaust housing and a WW for now..egts are a little higher and she surges a little.but she hits 32 lb of boost pretty fast... i get to the same speed alot faster to..when tax season gets here..i hope to have a BB 38R..if i was in your shoes and wanted stage 2's..i would look into a D66 turbo and a 17 HPOP then up date the PCM and IDM...the D66 was very new when i did my swap..but it turned out to be such a great turbo..they built them for the 99.5-03 trucks now...it flows alot more air then stock..30 to 33% more...
i got my sticks from a guy that was running them in a 97 duelly with a 17 HPOP and a D66..he dynoed (sp?) 436...i should be just as good if not a little better..i have a little better then a stock 17 HPOP,soon a better turbo moded IDM and a newer PCM with better tuning..
i havent yet..i just put them in about a month ago..not going to dyno it till i get the turbo and pay a visit with Jody for live tuning this spring...i see you already have the 17 Hpop..if you want to do the IDM..PM me your address and ill send you a resistor to do the 140 IDM mod..a PCM can be had for 75-150 bucks on carparts.com
