Maybe your tank is rusting internally or you picked up a bunch of debris from one of your fill ups. Might be interesting to carefully cut the old filter open to see if it has a lot of rust in it.
I usually change the filter about every 20,000 miles. that works out to around 2 years for me.
It is possible that lisagould's explanation about condensate freezing in the fuel pump relay is what caused your pump to not run and the truck to not start.
My truck has been difficult to start for the last 2-3 weeks, but only when the temp dipped below freezing. My hearing is pretty bad, but It didn't sound like the fuel pump was coming on when I turned the key. Eventually it has always started, and runs fine. I could not think of a logical reason for this to happen, but the freezing pump relay fit the symptoms. It eventually starts when the heat from the relay coil thaws the relay.
It might not be the problem, but I kind of think it is.
Good Luck Frank
Yea i guess. It wouldn't suprise me if i cut the old filter open and found rust. About a month ago I replaced my tank becuase it was leaking due to a nice sized hole, which was caused by rust.
The filter i just replaced didn't seem nearly as pluged as I remember it being in March. Perhaps my fuel pump is getting a bit weak?
The truck is very high miled and I don't know if the pump has ever been replaced.
Last winter my truck would start when it was 10 bleow.

That's corrrect. I realize now that i probably should've replaced it when I had the tank down. Oh well, it's not that hard to pull down. If it starts acting up agian I'll have to replace it.

How is that sharing information about trucks?
Sounds to me like Rostena is a young guy still in school. He might not have a lot of time, money, or knowledge. He came here for help which was smart. I don't think he is lazy.

Picked up a fuel pump relay today, $13.50 well spent. When I pulled the old one I found if full of corrosion. Scraped the plug clean as possible and filled it with dielectric grease. Either the corrosion or moisture in the relay, or a combination, was causing my starting problem. (I Hope).
The old relay will get cleaned up good and after I'm sure it is dry, it will ride along as an emergengy spare.
