Smile pulled 13500k over 6000 miles

well guys and gals, i made it, pulled from anchorage alaska to tucson az, towed my 5er weighing in at 13500 lbs. through the yukon, british columbia through vancouver pass into washington and down the california coast. with not a one hickup besides the tranny cooler ( i think froze the fluid cold at -40 deg twice in 2 different days on the flats) still not sure, been fine ever since, tranny reached 225 deg and i pulled over at idle untill down to 150 and was good to go after that, twice on 2 seperate days, also, in hains junction and 1 day north and south of that location they use 50 below heating oil for diesel fuel at the pumps, man does that stink, but the engine runs smooth as butter on it, and good power, even down closer too the states they use LSD .5 ppm and runs like a top but just doesnt smell as bad, WOW, you should see the SUT from the kerosene diesel i was running for a few days, ooops, forgot, one morning 36 below zero, fuel bowl froze and no start, after draining and sopping up the fuel bowl, and topping off with antigel along with a set of jumper cables and an hour of figuring out what was wrong, she finaly started, there was black smoke for a mile after that, but still runnin stronger than ever, after that i was really heavy on the diesel kleen, i bought it by the gallon at wally world, so lets see, my camper froze, batteries froze solid, all food froze solid and many bursted, propane turned to liquid and was no good with zero preassure on a full tank,
every gas station needed to come out and turn the pumps on and poor antigel down the pump head to unfreeze the handle, wowowow, diesel cost me $220 american to fill up per tank (30 gal) while getting 10 to 11 mpg. (that was good),,,,,,,,, total fuel was around $3K. hummm, i love my new nitto terra grapplers, on one pass on an ice patch over 6% grade in 4x4, first gear manual, at 40 mph making 30 lbs. boost for 20 min. some where in british columbia i crested the top with only loosing about 6 inches of traction one time, those are e. rated and ride really nice with no road noise. and they look pretty mean too. any how, only thing new is belt idler bearing going out and cold side of turbo is discollered something bad, but hot side looks fine, any one know why my turbo turned brown/bronzed like it was really hot but pyro only seen 1250 deg. also to add, ive never heard my clutch fan before, after 2 years living in alaska, as soon as i pulled the grape vine, it started growling at me on and off, by the way, for those of you who have pulled the grape vine, its nothing compared the the mountain passes of british columbia in the winter. thanks for listening, as i was very excited to talk about my trip, not to mentiion the huge white tails i saw, caribou, buffalo and wild horses too.
and sorry eugene, didnt make it too vegas, the wife wanted to see the beach after being in alaska for the past 5 years, and a note to all, if you plan to travel to alaska via the alcan highway, be over prepared. if any one would like to hear any specifics, just let me know, and i hope somebody can figure out my turbo discoleration.

thanks again FTE.

Sounds like a heck of trip. I'd be interested some specifics on your route in AK and Canada.

well, i do have the ccv reroute, so im not sure if thats it, but it could have been excess oil from before i did the reroute. i seems to scratch off a little, so still not sure, havent really touched yet, just odd, could be regular heat combined with the redicoulous cold temps also, i will post my route shortly. But am now looking to rebuild and do EBPV delete and polish along with a new comp. wheel and ats housing and balanced. I also just found 2 dynos in town.

Welcome back to the lower 48, thats a heck of an extreme temp adjustment. -40 in the winter to 115+ in the desert. glad you made it o.k.

I agree with Pete it is probably just cooked oil residue on the turbo. Get some Dawn Power Dissolver (sold at the grocery store in the dishwashing section) spray it on and let it sit for 10 mins and then wash it off with low pressure water.

And I would recommend getting that tranny fluid out of there asap. 225 probably wasn't the best thing in the world for it. I have no idea why people would willingly live where temps get so cold as to freeze propane in the tank and all that. 30lbs of boost for 20 minutes probably got everything pretty warm. Glad everything turned out okay for you though.

Now you get to change your "location", upper RH corner.

Folks with the new(er) engines requiring ULSD should take note that it may not always be avail in the lands to the north. (I know, he went through there in the winter)
