I have been towing for many years, and about two years ago, got the Prodigy. As far as I understand, it works based on how much pressure you apply to the brakes, and is adjustable with a few priority settings for more power, etc. It seems to be a safe controller.

Prodigy is the best bang for the buck. Don't waste your money on the P3 unless you have e-o-hydrolic brakes.

I started out with the Prodigy, upgraded to the Jordan Ultima 2020 and now have the Brakesmart controller. Should have got that one to start with.BUT don't rely on the quality of your brake controller alone. Double check the wiring to your brakes. Make sure all the magnets work. One last thing,I would put an exhaust brake on my wish list and see if Santa can deliver it before you take your trip.

Another vote for the Prodigy. It doesn't work on brake pedal pressure; it senses the deceleration rate of the TV and applies power to the trailer in proportion.

well , I have now installed my new prodigy and it didn't come on. so I got to checking the wires with a test light and discover that the is no power to the unit. the wire that comes from the brake pedal is hot when brakes are applied. how do I go about tracking that wire to find where it is bad? or is there a fuse I am over looking?
