Good Paa Meeting.

Well guys, this started Friday evening. Roland got to my store around 4:00 pm. I left my phone at home. Once we got home I checked my phone, sure enough, Chris (F350-6) left me a message that he was on his way to my house. I called him back and he was in Lake Charles. Gave him directions to my house, 30 mins later he was here.

Friday evening we changed the the pinion seal. There is no way I could have done this my self. Roland brought a 4 to 1 reducer ratchet. We still had to use a 36" pipe wrench to hold a backup while taking off the pinion nut. We had to have my brother put his foot on the ratchet and brace himself to put enough force on the handle of the ratchet to break the nut. Once the nut was off, everything went good after that on the install of the new seal. It was easy enough to put the 470 lbs of torque back on the nut with the tool Roland brought. We did a little fishing after we finished the rear seal . Wife cooked shrimp gumbo, so we got full.

Saturday, it was one cold mouther down here. I lit the heater in the shop early. lol. After breakfast, we went to the shop and started taking the top of the engine off. Chris just did one of his injectors so it was fresh in his mine. We have pics and my brother took a vid of the R&R. I will try to get that up later. This is not something that is hard to do, just lots of things to take off and time consuming. Going back with the injectors and glow plugs went well. We only found a few of the bolts on the rocker arm pedestals, that were a little loose, most were fine. Chris had to leave before we started going back together with this. Chris was such a great help, he jumped on the passenger side VC. I heard that it was the hardest on to take off. Before I knew it, he handed me the VC. . Darn, that was fast. . Roland, has a motto, Good enough, is not Good enough. He takes his time to make sure everything is right. He also checks everything 2 to 3 times before he gives the ok. We did get the truck started Saturday evening. Took a few times of cranking. Had the charger on for the first few time of trying, then we hooked jumper cables to Roland's truck. The truck started with the help of the other truck. That thing smoked and ran like crap, the more it ran the better it started running. We let it run and went to fishing. . It was dark out so we decided to wait till Sunday morning to take it for a drive.

It's Sunday morning now as I write this. We are about to go for a drive.

You guys remember about the thread about (That Sucker). The jar that uses the trucks vacuum line to suck oil out of the HPOP. Well I want to tell you guys that Roland's Super Sucker worked like a charm. We have it on vid, the Super Sucker doing its job. We had to use Roland's truck to get the vacuum from, didn't want to turn my key on at the time. I will let Roland tell you about the operation of the Super Sucker.

Ok, it's about time to go for a ride. More to come.

Many thanks to Chris, Roland and Scotty (dodge boy) my brother.

All in all, this job wasn't bad. Just takes a little time. I am pretty thorough, as Rick said. Until I'm satisfied, I won't give the thumbs up.
The Super Sucker did a good job of removing the oil from the cylinders and elsewhere. I had put a piece of 1/4'' copper tubing on the end of the hose. I could bend it so that it could "reach around in there". I was suprised at the amount of oil it would remove. As an afterthought, I am thinking of fabbing a pigtail, for the truck's vacuum pump, so I can use an outside battery source. Wouldn't really have to, but it would be convenient.

I learned a few things while doing this project. Not really short cuts, but a different take on the process. Not really anything new, but might make start up a little quicker with less introduction of air into the oil fuel systems. I have the CCK, so it is pretty much a "self bleeding" fuel system. It was a good experience. Something I would not hesitate to do again. I hope to be installing SS injectors in my truck sometime in the spring. Better weather and will have the "mod money" by then. I'm still a little undecided about the nozzle size yet. I'll have this all figured out before then.
We'll be going on our test drive shortly. Stay tuned. More to come.

I hope you remembered to open all the doors to the shop before you started her up. I enjoyed the visit (and the gumbo). Can't wait to hear how she runs now.

Well, just finished the test drive. WOW, This big heavy truck should not go this fast. . This thing runs so good. We only went around 30 miles, but this is unreal. The only thing right now is the idle. It's ruff right now, but seems to be getting better. I will drive more miles to see if this helps out. Like I said, only 30 miles so far, so I will see after more miles.

I WOT at around 15 mph and broke all four wheels loose in the back. I know you guys that have big mods in your trucks know what I mean about having the front come up and push you back into the seat with each gear.

Thanks DP-TUNER and Beans for this part of the mods. My brother is trying to get me a disk of the work we did.

About to go drive the truck some more.
