Cast date is Sept 30, 1964...E isnt counted as a month in casting dates as I recall otherwise it would be October...count the dots after the date...that denotes the shift it was done on...
From what I have read in the parts book, all of the HiPo intakes were aluminum hi rise...I cannot figure out which carb was on it originally..
casting numbers, like you posted are not part numbers and thus cant be used to nail down its exact application...I am pretty sure ND will chime in on this and correct anything I may be incorrect on...which I welcome...
The hi-po "K code, 271HP" intakes and the regular 4V "A code, 225HP" intakes were the same. The 306HP shelby K codes had an aluminum high rise. The K codes used a bigger 715cfm carb, free-er flowing exhaust manifolds, beefier rods and main caps, a supposed nodular iron crank. The heads were the same except screw-in studs.
Yes it's normal about the dead head water jackets. Some block off the heat riser, and there will be varied opinions regarding the benefits of that, personally I wouldn't bother.
