anyone ever coated there floorboards with the rubberized undercoating that comes in spray cans? I would rather not put carpet in and the rubber mats for the entire cab are kinda high, im just makin small improvements on a tight budget.
It works. Its not the best stuff in the world, and you can track it around your house if you are not careful once it has been applied, even after its dry/cured. I would rather use the bed liner in a can over rubberized undercoating for floors. I put ice and water shield (used on roofs) or Vitchethane on top for cheaper than Dynamat sound deadening. I use the rubberized undercoating on the underside, and in my doors/other cavities I open up in the truck. In the rust belt, that stuff more than likely will spell death for something, but in CA, it hasnt made my truck rot out yet.
My carpet was toast, so I pulled it out, prepped the floorpan and just applied some tremclad paint. I have some decent rubber floor mats, and its working great!
I've used the bed liner in a can rolled it on and so far so good, so have a couple of my buddies and they have been happy too. The spray on rubber undercoating will wear off even faster than you could scratch off paint. So I say for on the cheap that lasts and will not trap moisture, roll on bed liner is the way to go.
I recall having some adhesion issues with the duplicolor stuff. I am not remembering how i did the prep, chances are I did not do it correctly. In other words, do the prep according to how the can says to do it.
yea the moisture thing kinda scared me, but ive never used the stuff so i just figured i would check. im just goin for somethin thats easy to apply that will give a decent grip. Obviously the rubberized stuff isnt a good idea. i never thought of it bein easy to scratch off though. I guess ill be gettin the bedliner stuff. ill try it and see how it works. a buddy of mine said he rolled on the bedliner in a thin coat, sprinkled sand allover it, let it dry, then rolled on another coat. Seemed like a bit of overkill, but then ive never used the roll on bedliner either so i dont know what kind of texture it has after its cured.
I wouldn't try the spray on undercoating, especially the cheep stuff. I have had it turn an ugly brown color in no time. The bedliner stuff sounds interesting though.
ah maybe i wont screw up the bedliner stuff. heck i might even coat the bed while im at it. but probably not lol. im just gonna buy a quart of it for now. ill put it in and see how i like it, if i need more ill get more, but im thinkin a quart will do the floor completely.
