We recently picked up an 86 f250 diesel 4x4. There is a small black rubber piece on the hump of the floorboard that has a small yellow light on the back side facing the dash. Anyone know what this is by chance?

Post some pics so we can better help you. Easiest way to do that is create a Photobucket account, upload the pic there, select the picture to be posted, copy the IMG code thats to the bottom right of the image (a small box with html codes and other stuff, look for the one that says IMG) then paste it here in the thread reply.

Mood lighting? Turn it on and see if your girl gets amorous.
I was assuming his girl was a woman of taste and refinement...so 'amorous' was indeed what I meant. But you've reminded me that he's on FTE, so what I probably should have said was "Turn it on and see if your girl starts to **** *** and **** your ****. Then ** ******** **** *** ***** * ****** ****. ** ***** *** ****** ***** **** ****** * Dirty Sanchez."

Welcome to FTE
Thanks I will get some pictures taken and post later.
Most of the under-dash lighting we see is from the courtesy group and aims towards the floor.
I was wondering if it's part of instrumentation backlighting belonging to the lights & controls added to the cubby-hole pocket in the dash when diesel engines are installed. The courtesy lamps are at both extreme ends of the dash, the OP has something near the center hump that doesn't sound at all familiar to anything I've seen before.
