lifter tapping

lifter tapping

i bought a 86 f 250 with a 6.9 to replace my 91 7.3 when it died well the 6.9 ran great when i bought it know that i have swaped it in to my 91 it now has a lifter tapping. it has been setting for about 8 months what can i do to get this fixed

Best to pull the rocker on the offending side and identify which rocker/lifter. Then check for worn out rocker a known problem with the 6.9

if you have a bad rocker you can swap the 7.3 idi rocker assay into it as it's a better set up and a common upgrade.

The 6.9 that was in my 83 truck set for over a year. Several of the lifters fell down in it also. I ran the motor for a few hours pretty hard. They finally came in after about 3 hours. That was 12 years ago. They have given no trouble since.

It wasn't quite as hard as you run yours. If it was they would have come back in in 15 minutes.

i think u should swap back the 6.9 better motor thick cyclinder walls or the other thing to do is hit it with a big hammer that fix everything

after sitting for 8 months couldnt it be possible it is just sticking?i would try running some lucas through it just to see what happens

from my experience with it its some amazing stuff.granted it wont fix it all but it has surprised me more than once.i actually changed my buddys oil today in his nissan and completly got rid of his lifter noise he had one sticking.i love lucas products.best additive out there other than diesel kleen.and i rotate diesel kleen and lucas fuel additive every fill up

i hooked the goose neck to it and ran around the country side for a couple hours and it did come out of it thanks for the advice. and by the way the i am running the 6.9 inplace of the 7.3
