I just got done with fuel/oil change,I used all ford motorcraft parts&oil. How can the dealership justify the prices for these services? $90.00-$100.00 for a oil change that took me 35 min. (talking to my wife) would have taken 20. all parts (oil change) $55.00 .Fuel filters $73 only because I bought them at a dealership. But they wanted $150 for that. thinking about starting a oil & fuel filter changing shop,HA!HA!!!
Ford does seem to be adopting a cost+rape pricing strategy.
The only thing I'll buy at the dealership now is Mercon SP, everything else is online ordering. The only reason I buy the SP locally is because after shipping its not much cheaper online.
Many dealerships will give repeat customers 20% off at the parts counter. I have had 3 different dealerships give me that discount after explaining that I do most of the work myself and would prefer to install Ford parts. It helps when you have multiple vehicles that are Fords. In my case, the vehicles are usually old also, so I have no trouble convincing them that I will give them some volume. All you have to do is ask. This discount will usually get you close to the aftermarket prices.
As for filters check out the International dealerships or dieselfiltersonline (but you probably already know that now).
I would never have the dealership change the oil or the fuel filters. It is a big waste of money and they usually have a very inexperienced person assigned the task - some of which do not care about the customer or for working very hard. Having this work done at Walmart or a Quick lube place is even worse of a gamble IMO.
Word to the wise,.......The dealer nearest me gets bulk oil from whoever is cheapest. So getting a "Ford" oil change is less Ford than you may think. ;-)
Funny this came up, while mine was in for an oil cooler replacement I had them do the tranny fluid/filter and the damn fuel filter. This was the first time I had them do the fuel filter and they charged roughly $80 for the filter and $40 for labor. It just reaffirmed why I do all the fluids except the transmission. The only reason I have them do that is because I want a solid record of it being changed every 30K so when it blows under warranty there will be no questions. The frame filter is a PITA to get to and replace but it isn't worth an extra $80-$100 to have them do it. For the record our dealers use motorcraft oil at least.
I cant even do it cheaper than my dealership anymore. They are always sending out coupons for $50 oil changes and $55 air filter services. Still cant justify letting them charge $90 for fuel filters though. Still do my own oil for the peace of mind that comes with it. Cant put a value on that!

Peace of mind is worth its weight in gold.
And,..... you get to wrench on your truck!!
