The same reason why I need an illuminated mirrored visor..... At least the rear defrost I can transplant into the crew eventually...

The housing is not removable without undoing the stitching.
Cut the wire and the rod will come out. When I dyed mine a different color I remember having to cut that wire and then resoldered it after I was done. I can't recall if there was a lot of tension on that spring or not by the base mount. If there is a lot of tension on that spring it is going to be hard to swap out the mounting bases.

Got the complete setup right down to the correct switch in the basement. Plans are to put it in the 250.

Yeah you'd like one of them huh! It is a nugget and actually I bought it from a pretty good friend over in Jersey. I'm sure he'll pop in here. I had it shipped to me and I was nervous the whole time it was on the UPS truck. It was actually lost in shipping but it made it. Shipping was a total nightmare, thanks UPS.

Yea I would like one.The problem I have is that it's so rare.I don't know if I could go ahead and mount it.The trk would have to be a "Sunday" drvr.Cause I would be so concerned with fragging it.If I did get one.I'd probably just leave it in my heated barn and then grab a beer and go out and look at it every once and awhile

Well I think I only took the 250 out once this entire year. Probably put a whole 50 miles on it. So that should work out fine for me.

And you probably don't drive it during winter at all either.......But, great find. I have never seen one before. When you get it hooked up, you'll have to start the truck during the cold and see if it works.

No Buck they are both tucked away in the heated garage till Spring now. I can't see any reason to take them out in the snow/salt mess and help to prematurely rust them out. I bought it more for the rare factor than the use factor as I'm sure you guessed.

I'm with ya. My truck may see some snow, but it will be in my driveway when I pull it out for some reason (about 20feet). Other than that, it will sit all winter in my garage. I do have it heated and I try to keep it somewhat heated. I mostly use the heat when I'm working out there. I don't have the truck done yet, so it wouldn't see the winter anyway. Heck, when it's done, it won't even be driven in the rain.

I've always wanted to restore a vehicle and my truck is the one I picked. I'm not doing it for any reason but bringing something back to life and preserve some fine Ford History. Also, I hope to pass the truck down to my son. Wow, I'm very off topic.

But back to the topic, I look all the time for different rare options and haven't found one yet. So, I'll keep looking.

Ben no rear defrost for 78-79 Bronco's. I know later in time they did come out with the rear defrost but I don't know what year it started. IIRC it was the same as shown above (the wire type). You could get one of those plug in type 12 volt heaters and put it in the back to help with some heat back there to keep them clear.

The reason I ask is because sometimes I get in my Bronco and have ZERO visibility for 30 minutes at a time, and when I get into the mountains and the temp drops, I have no visibility through the rear windows until I get out of the mountains. Sorry to the OP for the hi-jack.
I agree. That would be a great -after market- option

I found one truck with rear defrost option out in Oklahoma in a pull-a-part, but someone replaced the window with a slider The switch was there though.
