I have been kicking this idea around for about 1 1/2 now. I am wanting to regear my truck with 4.11 gears. The only problem I am having is deciding upon the diffential. I have an open diff now and it totally sucks. I know that a lot of you gears are fans of the Detroit locker. But I am a little hesitate about it. I have heard stories about he popping and jumping they seem to do around corners and when it unlocks and locks. So I am wanting to stay away from them. I know a guy who owns a desiel performance shop that swears by the Richmond Powertrax. He stays that it is the best of both worlds. Smooth operation around corners with both rear wheels diggin in when you need them to. He has however never installed one on a Ford. He a dodge man. I am just looking for some experience here. Although hard to find, there are a few places that carry the model that fits our trucks. Here is a link to the site and videos.
Go to Randys Ring and Pinion web site or call their toll free number and they are great at helping you with any rear end questions. I had a detroit locker in a old Bronco for years and loved it, after i got used to it. Had it for about 5 yrs and not one issue. They wont jump around corners as long as you don`t hammer the thottle.
One other note, a common mistake people do is use synth fluid or too light of fluid. These rear ends work problem free and quiet when you use 75-140 EP gear oil only, but someone else could chime in with a different story. This has just been my experience.
