I am going to start reworking the interior in the 86 tomorrow morning. I was hoping to get some ideas on building a custom gauge panel to replace the stock instrument cluster.
One of the major things I want to change is the gauge cluster. I am pretty sure I have room for a speed0, tach, water temp, oil pressure, amp, Fuel and indicator lights. But yet I want to have something unique. Has anyone ever made something on a mid 80's truck and if so got any pics? I tried to do a search but I had little luck.
Also I am going to build a center console to accommodate some bucket seats i am going to install. What could I use as a padding on the top of the lid as it will also act as an arm rest. I was thinking some sort of foam then cover with carpet and staple it underneath.
Does anyone know the Ohm range on the sending units for the 86 150?
One of the major changes I want to make is a custom gauge panel in place of the factory inst cluster. I found a real nice set of gauges and I am looking into using it.
The one thing that confuses me is how do I know if I can get my fuel levels read correctly. The after market fuel gauge says 0 Ohm Empty and 280 Ohm Full. What will that mean with the factory sending unit?
I went out and spent the day working on the truck.
So far today I managed to
Fix the fuel system wiring correctly
Installed a new TPS (It runs nice now)
Fix the throttle sticking problem
Install new door Pins and bushings (YAY No more picking the doors up to shut them)
Got My Bucket seats set in place and a design for the brackets, wielded some up, painted them and bolted it all in place.
Measured for a custom console and speaker box behind the seats
Measured space for a custom gauge panel and broke the trim (Didn't intend to break it though)
Complained about Ford changing the dash from metal to plastic.
Complained some more but this time I used vulgar language
The goal is to get the Interior and Exterior how I want it then move on to Suspension and Drive train then Build that 302 but I am going to have to take a break on it by spring to work over the old 76 and get it Mud ready again.
I got some pictures of the Interior as it was stock and I am going to take more as I go and post them along the way.
And I would be a real jerk to take all the credit. My Bro was there helping as was my father in law. So in reality I did not do a whole lot except measure, break stuff, and ponder over where a rust spot came from.
Oh and I wired in the new Plug for the relay to get my fuel working right with out toggle switches.
I also installed the New TPS and lubed up the throttle because it was sticking instead of dropping back to idle.
Here's another idea for a gauge panel if you haven't decided on one already. All gauges are electronic VDO from Summit. The truck is finally back on the road so I'll have to get some installed pics soon.

What did you do with the heater vents? Do away with the vents and go with def and feet only? That looks sharp. Certainly gave me some ideas for more room.
