Those were AC vents, not heater. At least, this is my supposition; I don't have AC and
don't have those vents.

That is SHARP! I'm gonna keep that idea in mind when it comes to move to full instrumentation instead of our "idiot lights with needles"

Sorry I didnt get a chance to get pictures yesterday, got a little busy, but here they are:

Console.
I built it using plywood and screws, vinyl for the covering and I used I believe it was 1/2" high density foam from the craft store (under the vinyl top) for padding on top (the part that sticks out on the front will eventually be a cupholder ... eventually):

Lid. I again used the foam for padding, vinyl for the covering, then just picked out a hinge and drawer **** I liked from the hardware store to use to open the lid:

Lid open. you can see I sprayed the inside ply black, and stapled the vinyl to hold it on. you can also see the hinge there in the middle. overall its a nice fairly big "clutter bin" to hold w/e I wanna throw in there:

The top of the back part I made removeable, so I can get to my infinity basslink whenever I have the need. the screws sticking out are on purpose, to hold the "lid" up, it wedges in really tight and aint going anywhere, I just wanted to make sure it didnt get pushed furthar down ... I hardly ever have this part off:

Like ct said, they are only aircon vents, which mine never had. I'm putting in an in-dash aircon and routing the outlet of it back into the fan/heater box. Eventually I'll take the original floor outlet duct and put it into the centre console where it will distribute either up (head) or down thru floor vents.
