I know this isn't a PSD question but.........My wife is out of town with my truck and it is flashing "THEFT" and won't let her start the truck. The owners manual says to use a "coded" key. Is that the spare key? What do I do?
Did she hit the "panic" button on the remote to do this?
She's on a roll, she left her lights on all night last night on her car, that is why she is in my truck.........i bit my tongue!!
Try this, disconnect the battery for 30 minutes then reconnect. Now insert the key and turn the ignition to the run position where all the dash lights come on. If the theft light is flashing fast then just leave the key there for up to ten minutes. Once it stops flashing if it does then try and start the truck. if it still fails to start then it will probably have to go to the dealer.
My wife called the dealer, when she told him what it was doing, he said, Is it an '01 and is it cold and winding outside (it is). He didn't know why it does this but he knew what to do. She couldn't even turn the key before but he told her to pull on the steering wheel while trying to turn the key. She did and the theft light went off and it started. Maybe I should move this question to the Excursion section but has anybody heard of this problem?

Mine will do this sometimes, too. I don't have a fancy theft light, but I do have to wiggle the steering wheel sometimes to unlock the ignition. It is some sort of antitheft thing IIRC.
Is your truck lifted? Is your wife short? Mine really only does it when you move the wheel with the key off. I wondered if she used the steering wheel as a hand hold.

Not lifted and not short but she says she does do that. Great point, thanks!
Talk to me like I don't know what your talking about, because I don't. Are you saying that a transponder immobilizer has gone bad? What is a transponder immobilizer?
