Mexican Grade Low Sulfer Deisel

Anybody have any idea if it is possible to run LSD without hurting the engine. I want to make trips into Baja, but the gas is not ULSD. Thought about a transfer tank, but would like to hear about any additives that may help. Thanks.

I wouldn't trust running to much of the mexican fuel in the newer truck. Their fuel does not compare to the PPM that we have here. Our fuel is more fine than what they offer. You could run it in an emergency but it would not be good over long term use.

If the DPF is still on your truck, do not run diesel from Mexico. Most likely the sulfur rating will be over 500ppm which will poison the DPF.

The DPF is one of the biggest concerns with mexican fuel. Then maybe the injectors, not really sure though.

Do they not make these trucks to travel all over? What about those of us that work or travel a lot in Mexico, or even south america. What about Canada?

Can I not travel with a 6.4 truck if I get one? That would be a reason for me to hold back on a purchase.

don't run anything but USDL. I don't think Mexico has the same standards for emissions as the US/Canada.

You would need to figure out how far into mexico you will be going and then carry enough to get you back.

The fact is.. A little googling will tell the true story...

ULTRA LOW SULFUR DIESEL

The states bordering the boundary with the USA have switched over to American refined ultra-low-sulfur-diesel exclusively. Outside of the border states only Mexican low-sulfur diesel can be found. Because of the complexity in getting rid of sulfur after it has been extracted from motor fuel, it is not expected that Pemex is going to expand the area of ultra-low-diesel for the next several years. If and when ultra-low-sulfur is displayed on Pemex signs it will have an annotation of "UBA".

Richfaa, just remember not to believe everything you find on Google. I don't live far from Mexico and I can tell you without a doubt there is plenty or LSD pumps within a stones throw of the border.

Vaquero, don't risk running Mexican diesel in your truck.

Super Duty's designed to be sold in Mexico do not have the same emissions systems as the trucks sold in the U.S.

Good, I was thinking that would be a bad call for business to make a vehicle that can only be used for the US. That would mean that they could only sell them here. Not good since they are having so much trouble as is.

Its Federal law... all 2007 and newer trucks must use ULSD and can not use LSD. ALL brands must conform... its not just Ford.

In the U.S. only trucks with 2007 emission standard engines are required to use ULSD. With the Ford Super Duty that would mean 2008 model year and newer.

One can find plenty of LSD fuel along any interstate or turnpike as well as in any State or city in the USA. I am sure not every station along the Border States with the USA carries ULSD as we have not been to every Pemex station along the Mexican border. However as the google quote indicates Pemex does provide ULSD to stations along the border and one does not need a DPF delete to travel in these areas. The folks we know that thave traveled along the border States have indicated no problem with finding ULSD at Pemex stations. I personally would not take the truck or camper into Mexico..

I own a trucking company. I have older trucks and newer trucks. I will tell you the world does not end if you put LSD in once in a while instead of ULSD. Say your are driving your F250 from Phx to Havasu and back. Well you won't find any ULSD unless you detour to Quartzsite. So you can either drive 40 miles out of the way or put LSD in, or well you could push it is only 54 miles to the next pump.
Should you put Mexican fuel? No. Should you change your life to keep from it? I would say not. If you are going to Baja then make sure your tank is full when you leave the US. Then when you get to the soonest you can get fuel and have enough to get out of the country buy it. That way you are mixing the LSD and the ULSD. I do the same when I take a Gas truck down. I have never had a problem beside bad fuel mileage and running like crap. I drive from AZ about 200 miles in to Mexico a couple times a year to go diving and and camping. No matter what the pump says you are getting what ever they put in the tank back out.

I think in CA we only have ULSD besides offroad diesel of course. But that is not meant for trucks or cars, just for transfer tanks and equipment.
