I've done a lot of searching for this and I can't find the answer I'm looking for. I am putting an automatic floor shifter in my 74 4X2. What do I need to do in order to eliminate all of the column shift stuff? Do I need to buy an entire column for a 4 spd to get rid of all of the shift lever, indicator, etc? Thanks
or you can just remove the shift indicator and then remove the shift lever, and you can cover it up with a what ever you want, on my truck the previous owner converted the truck to a stick shift on the floor, he added a tach to the column and the round bracket hides the shifter hole on the column, i will post pics by this wed-Thursday, put the floor setup in my truck was a custom job, its still rough looking, but it still needs to be finished and painted, but to give you a good idea on what i did, here it is,
you can see the column in the last picture, the previous owner put a bracket on the column and it holds on the tach, i will get a better pic soon, and you don't really need to get a non shift column, and the shifter is a B&M Unimatic shifter and is a cable link shifter which connects to my AOD
sorry about the mess, and the reason for the console is not only made for moving the shifter to the right of the 4x4 shifter, but it also allows the shifter to stay above the floor and not let it sit outside in the elements, and the trucks in full frame off restoration so its a mess! hope this helps, and you can't see the tach, its staying on the column, even since its back to automatic, it will add to the effect that its a stick shift truck!
