I am looking to purchase a used Leer cap. I have a 2001 F250 crew cab with the short bed. The cap I am looking at is advertised that it was on a 2003 F-250 extended cab with a short box. Is the short bed on a crew cab the same as a short bed on the extended cab? And if they are the same, will the year model make a difference?
All 99-07 F250 and F350 Super Duty short beds beds are all exactly the same. Any cap (or topper as they are called around here) that is designed to fit a short bed for those years will work fine on your truck. I had a short bed topper on my 99 F250 and sold it to a buddy at work who put it on his 2006 F350 and it fits fine.
In 2008 Ford changed the lip on the top edge of the tailgate which makes all toppers for the 2008 up Super Duty different.
What he said, there are only 6.5' and 8.5' beds in the superduty. In the f150 they do add 5.5' and stepsides, but that doesn't cross up to the superduties.
In the application guides the bed sizes show up as 5.5', 6.5' and 8.5' for most bedliner, tonneau cover and other bed accessory manufactures. It makes life easier on the people putting up websites to have a fairly standardized sizing.
