2000 F-250 SuperCab XLT 4x4
7.3PSD, 152k Miles, Cloth Interior, Leer shell, Bully Dog 5 Stage Chip, Shift Kit, 6" Lift, New Shocks and Warn Hubs
The OASIS is clean. Carfax clean. The truck looks to be in good shape (haven't seen it in person yet). Just wondering what you guys would be paying for a truck like this (assuming no major issues) in your part of the land?
Also, I'm pretty new to diesels so any advice on what to check for on a truck with this many miles (I know, I know, SEARCH).
I know the Bully Dog is not real popular here. Is that because it is just not as efficient or is it more likely to harm the engine/trans than the other chips/tuners? Thanks.
That should be a solid truck if it's been taken care of. With the market the way it is, I wouldn't expect to pay over $9K for that truck. As for stuff to check, this is a good place to start. If you come over to the 99-03 7.3 forums we can help you out once you get a good look at if you have any questions.
As for the Bully Dog- they are an off the shelf chip that generally doesn't work very good, especially when compared to something that is customed tuned like a Tony Wildman or DP tuner. They also typically only change engine output, without doing anything to the trans to stand up to the extra power unlike a custom burned chip. Since its on there already I'd leave it until you can afford to swap to a TW or DP setup.
I pad $26K for my 02 Lariat supercab,longbed back in 05.
Since last year, though, the market on diesel trucks has def come down, considerably
A friend just got an 02 XLT supercab, shortbed 4x4 with the 7.3 for 12K with about 65k miles.
I have the same year, model truck and it has been nothing short of fantastic.
I bought it brand new,I now have 165000 miles and with the exception of a bad CPS "replaced by recall" it has been trouble free.If everything looks and runs well,I would jump on it.
The only advice i would give you is have the transmission checked out or make sure its shifting good and not slipping etc. Big lift so it probably has big tires and combine that with the diesel and programmer, 4r100 transmission might be a little strained. I have the 5.4 in my truck and my torque convertor started slipping and all the transmission guys said theyve never had many 5.4's come in its usually diesels with chips, programmers etc. that the convertors just cant handle all that extra torque.
Definitely be sure to check the turbo wheel for signs of damage from dusting- all the fins should be straight and no chips in them. Dust in the intake tube is a bad sign. Also don't forget all the usual stuff- brakes, ball joints, tie rods, etc.
BTW, 152K miles isn't much for a PSD.
Thanks for all the info guys. Now I have a problem. The truck is 500 miles away. I thought I would be going right through the area on business today, but I got detoured (300 miles the other way) and won't be able to look at the truck personally. Now, if I buy it, I'll probably have to fly there to check it out. Probably not a good idea to buy one of these sight unseen is it? Maybe I can find a good diesel mechanic in the area to check it out for me. Anyone know a good mechanic/shop in Idaho Falls, ID?
The truck is in IF? I don't know anybody down there, but you might be able to find someone from the area to scope it out for you if you go to the ID chapter forum. You'll want someone familiar with the 7.3's so they know what to look for. If you ask a mech. to do it he'll probably want to charge you. Have you got a link to an ad for it? You can PM it to me if you want so that nobody tries to poach it from you

Yeah if they haven't replaced the transmission yet, pay close attention to it, because we have a 2001 f250 w/ the 7.3 on the farm and the trans. was replaced at about 160,000 miles. But the 7.3 is definetly a bulletproof engine so if it all checks out I say go for it.
Good year for that truck and, yes, they've come down in price a little.
If it's in real good shape I'd say around 10K, if not, around 8K.
My brother has one with almost 500K miles on it - no major problems. The 7.3 is the best engine of the PSD class, imho. And check the tranny as was mentioned.
Damn that came out long, I tried adding all of the oprtions but they don't have certain options on kbb. Good luck, I'm kind of jealous from hearing about it.
Thanks for all the replies!! I think that I would do ok pricewise on this, but without actually seeing it, I'm a little hesitant to pull the trigger. Trying to find someone to go look at it. Thanks again for the help!

You need to go see it in person, don't go alone and bring money. The person with you will be able being to quit to pay. You need a little resistance if you want to try and get him to go down on the price. Good luck.
