Yes if you get a leo in a bad mood they could write you up, it could to block your view, the same as having anything hang from your mirror. My cousins a sheriff so he keeps me abreast of certain laws.
I made my own SuperDuty bracket for mine. It puts the Garmin 660 about two inches behind the steering wheel, directly in front of my speedometer. I can still see my gauges and my trip-odo without a problem. The Nuvi has a much more accurate speedo, anyway.

I snuck the Garmin out today to charge it and get it set up for wifey, and I must say that thing is way cool. I just have to figure out a suitable waiting period after Christmas before I get one for myself.
All things considered, and having used the built in Ford unit, I think a portable is the way to go. For my needs anyway.

Which model did you get? I'm stuck on which one I like.

Amazon had the 260W for $199. It is pretty much like the 205, except that it says the names of the streets to turn onto. The 205 just says to turn in xxx feet. Of course the W means it's wide screen.
Anyone get a refurbished one, Best Buy has those on their site for about half price but I'd be a little nervous about getting one that someone already had issues with. They have the 760 for around $250, half price ain't bad unless your just going to have issues with it. Any one have any experience?
Generally speaking...If it is a factory refurb, and Best Buy warranties it the same as new, I'd go for it.
Sometimes units don't work initially when they're produced. They need a tweak before they will work. Could be something as simple as a loose wire. Those units are sold as refurbished. Now if it is used, then returned, I'd stay away from it.
