I am considering buying a 1992 F-350 Dually for towing my enclosed trailer and general long distance hauling. It has the 7.3L IDI non turbo engine and an E4OD automatic transmission. This truck is very nice and is a one owner vehiicle. Only 160K on the clock and all the service records come with it. The transmission is junk and needs to be replaced with a different unit. This is not a problem for me. I can take care of this easily. My question for all of you is..................
What kind of fuel mileage can I expect from this truck. Let's be realistic. The owner states he could get 18-21 from this truck and I find that hard to believe. Is this a tale or true? Any comments would be helpful.
mostly it depends on rear gearing and how far you put your foot in it. but yes 18-21 mpg is possible, my 86 with 355 and a four speed gets about 18-19 mpg if i dont get over the speed limit or i dont stick my foot in it
Theres a couple of key words Dave (SPEED LIMIT) and (FOOT) plus yours probably weighs more empty than his.
My dually with gear venders od only gets 16 driving easy I'm hoping to get 9 or 10 going to ak pulling a 14 foot enclosed (HOPING) is the key word here.
I've never heard of a dually getting 21 MPG, but if you are prepaired to keep your speed in check, then you could get that when its empty if all the stars and planets line up. The 18 MPG is much more believable. Towing could be in the low teens. 10 MPG is not out of the qestion in an urban cycle, but on the highway 12-13 is more likely.
My personal best was 22.5 MPG at 70 MPH empty, but my truck is modified for MPGs.
