$500 for just the HID's or new headlamps and fog lamps also? for just the HID's its to much IMO. i have bought about 4 sets of HID's off ebay, all from the same guy and i cant think of his name but he's from ellicot city MD if that helps. anyway they are very easy to install, basically you get a ballast, which is your bulb, and then a little metal box which you have to squeeze in somewhere under the hood close to the lamps ( mainly cause you dont get enough wire to run it very far) but basically pull your stock bulb out, twist in the new HID bulb and your done! its as simple as changing bulbs honestly. as for the price i think 2yrs or so ago i paid $100 for the HID's, now you can get them for $50-60, and ive had my one set for over a year with no issues, 8k is a little bit to bluey/purple IMO and you run the chance of getting pulled over by the cops with them depending on how strict they are in your area, but 6K is a very white lite with a hint of blue when up close to them, really the perfect color IMO. a clear headlmaps will make them even brighter looking or the projector style lamps they sell for the expy would be perfect for HID's. there are more expensive HID's then some, just like anything but ive had my $60 ebay HID's next to my buddys $400 set on his RSX and you cant tell a bit of diff!! i cant see the reason to spend more then $50-100 on a set especially when there so cheap to buy anymore, and if you can swap out your headlamp bulbs then you can install HID's
6K fogs
pic of the ballast which just twists in like your bulb and the lil box you need to mount under the hood.
No there all plug n play, at least from what ive seen. the ballast hooks up to that metal box and the metal box will have a plug end on it that matches your trucks harness that originally plugged into the stock bulbs. ( thats why you have to say what type of bulb you have when ordering so you get the rite plug end on it- 9007) plug the stock harness into the metal box, twist the ballast into your lamp housing just as you would the stock bulbs, then that metal box will need to be secured somewhere under the hood, either with a zip tie, double sided tape or they usally come with a holster that you can secure under the hood and it just snaps into it, but ive usually done zipties or the tape and never had a problem, and thats it! like i said its very simple no wire splicing or anything all plug n play. if you have the stock expy lamps the HID's wont look there best cause the older expys dont have a completely clear housing but they will still be very bright. like i said too its best to have the projector style lamps when doing HID's cause they aim the lite better, the HID's are so bright that in a older halogen housing they almost are to bright and youll get the occasional flip of the lites from oncoming drivers cause your blinding them, especially being in a truck that sits high.
First of all I must say thank you to WRECKERMAN! Excellent info.
Only problem is I am not very handy, hate to admit it but its the truth.
Is it hard to get to the headlights? Know the foglight bulbs are easy to get to, in fact have to change the driver side as I replaced the bulb and didn't tighten the bulb all the way and the lense discolored. That project should be this week, hope that isn't a big pain but seems as if its only 3 bolts.
Has anyone else done the swap? Some one must have.
Again tho, I must say thanks WRECKER as you have shed some excellent light on this
The headlights come out very easily. There are 2 flat tabs above the headlights that you pull up on and then the whole ***. pulls straight out toward the front.

no there not instant on, they take maybe 10secs at most to be a full brightness. there is a high / low, the low beam is HID, highs kicks on a small halogen bulb thats mounted next to the ballast while the hid's are on , honestly ive only hooked the highs up one time, normally i just ran the lows cause there plenty bright enough especially if your running HID's in the head and fog's. i have a set of LED park lamps in my SHO, they light up white in park but when the blinkers come on they blink amber, but in park mode there so bright i can run around with my park lamps on and you would think i had HID's on,lol! check em out . this was done with my camera so the quality isnt the best the camera had a bad glare they are bright but they look a lil brighter then they actually are, lol! bottom pic is with HID's on and those bright parklamps, fogs are regular halogens, and this is in a 94 SHO so the headlamps are similiar to the older expy's meaning there not a 100% clear lamps like newer vehicles.
sorry for the newbie question, but just got to the states from england and purchased a 2000 Eddie Bauer Experdition, looking at changing the headlights to HID`s but which Bulbs do i order?
9007 hi/lo?
