First Generation Expedition Engine swaps
I'd like to hear about any engine replacements. I've got a '97. I like it and have owned it for ten years now. I'd rather keep it than buy a new one, but with 175 thousand miles on it, it's had that engine ticking for quite sometime now. 'Sounds like a stuck lifter on a pushrod motor and it comes and goes.
So I would prefer to drop in the newer 24 valve 5.4 Triton and would like to know if anyone's done that. I'd love to hear that it would be almost plug & play, but first it would be nice to know if even there is a "crate" 5.4 24 valve Triton available. My searches come up with none. Of course I'm open to a Lincoln 32 valve 5.4 but would like to know if that would also be practical, as far as harness hookups for that. I know it's easier just to drop a rebuilt 16 valve Triton in it, but with only 230 or 260HP, the extra grunt of the 24 or 32 valve motor would be nice. It won't be a commuter vehicle and with fuel prices dropped for the time being, that helps.
