Before I state my vote, let me give you a brief history of my "driving" area's. I've driven 2wd & 4wd in Ohio and Pennsylvania winters. Both of which if you have driven know can create black ice anywhere. I've driven on the beaches of Florida, and I have driven winters in Colorado.

To be honest, the only time where I needed 4x4 was Florida and Colorado. Sometimes the other two needed it, but that was only like a few other users on here, farm boys need it from time to time.

My suggestion? If you like going out and having fun, get the 4x4. If your doing some towing, get 4x4. As for me? I will be getting 4x4 until I get married, then I guess I'll have to get permission to get it.

I don't know the answers to your questions but my entire truck sits lower than a 4WD truck.

Your money - you spend it.

Personally, I can't use a 2WD. MY truck see's off highway use 40% or more of it's operating time. It's pulling a 14k# trailer loaded with my toys/family and I need it to operate as advertised (and then some when it gets nasty).

I've owned several 2wd trucks and they did what I needed them to at the time. However, since the mid 90's - I've "needed" 4wd, so until that time where I don't need one anymore - there will be one in my drive. I don't see that happening until the time comes when I can't get in the woods and shoot a deer. When that day gets here, I hope my children will be around to help me in the forest.

I just wanted to raise my hand as a 2WD owner. I have had my '99 SD V10 for 6 years and have never been stuck. Last summer I towed my travel trailer across country and never needed 4WD. I have driven on the beaches here in WA and never been stuck. I paid a lot less used for my truck than a comparable 4WD. I expect when I sell it that will still be the case but the money stayed in my pocket. I will probably drive this truck into the wrecking yard when the time comes anyway. This choice is really dependant upon your needs and what you will use the truck for. As this thread is overwhelmingly in favor of 4WD I thought I'd throw out my opinion. I'm not looking to argue, just presenting a different view.

I have a 2X4, and yea, Ive been stuck in river rocks, and had to chain up in the snow. It sucks, but I love my truck, and couldnt beat the deal or the miles on it. You can see pics in the gallary of the before and after I think. Next time I will get a 4X4.

no real need for it, however i prefer 4wd. i live in the city and pull/offroad once or twice a month and get out of the city hunting/fishing on a regular basis.

my opinion is as long as it works, you're not loosing any money on it buying/selling so why not? sure your mpg might not be as pretty but there's a couple hundred things that affect it and our trucks are not known for mpgs anyway.
